Shaggy Rugs

A high-pile rug makes a living room or bedroom a place where you’ll love walking barefoot. Its long, dense pile springs back with every step and absorbs sound in the room. The selection is small and carefully curated: Caso, made of wool and jute; Noble Design Laurel Green, made of wool; and Manhattan, made of cotton and viscose.

What high-pile exactly means

High-pile refers to the length of the pile: the fibers that stand upright from the base of the carpet. In a high-pile carpet, that pile is about 2 centimeters or longer. The closer the fibers are to each other, the fuller and firmer the rug feels. Wool springs back after pressure and thus retains its shape for a long time. Viscose and cotton provide a soft sheen, as with the Manhattan rug in warm brown.

The right place for a high-pile rug

A long pile belongs in places where you relax. Think of the seating area, the space next to the bed or a reading corner by the window. Next to the bed, position the rug so that you step directly onto the pile when you get up. In the seating area, let at least the front legs of your seating furniture rest on the rug. This creates a cohesive island. In a hallway or under a dining table, a shorter pile is more practical. Chair legs and shoes are more demanding on the fabric there.

What to look for when choosing and maintaining

Choose wool if you are looking for a rug that remains resilient for years.
Vacuum weekly with a smooth nozzle, without a rotating brush.
Brush the pile occasionally with a soft brush so that flattened areas recover.
Have deep stains removed professionally; rubbing pushes dirt further into the pile.

Het verschil zit in de lengte van de pool. Een laagpolig kleed heeft korte vezels tot ongeveer 1,5 centimeter en ligt strak en vlak. Een hoogpolig kleed heeft een pool van ongeveer 2 centimeter of meer. Dat voelt zachter en warmer aan en dempt meer geluid. Laagpolig is praktischer in drukke ruimtes, hoogpolig past bij plekken om te ontspannen.

Ja, zeker in de zithoek. Daar zorgt de lange pool voor comfort en een rustigere akoestiek. Leg het kleed zo dat de voorpoten van de bank erop staan. Op looproutes met veel verkeer slijt een lange pool sneller en ziet u loopsporen eerder. Houd daar rekening mee bij de plaatsing en stofzuig die zones vaker.

Stofzuig het tapijt wekelijks met een gladde zuigmond en zonder draaiende borstel, want die trekt vezels los. Zuig met de vleug mee. Borstel platgedrukte plekken onder meubelpoten op met een zachte borstel. Vlekken dept u direct met een witte doek. Een keer per paar jaar laten reinigen verwijdert vuil dat diep tussen de vezels zit.

Wol is de meest veerkrachtige keuze: de vezels komen na belasting terug omhoog en zijn van nature vuilafstotend. Viscose en katoen geven een zijdeachtige glans en een zachte hand, maar drukken sneller plat en zijn gevoeliger voor vocht. Een mix van wol en jute, zoals bij Caso, voegt een natuurlijke, iets ruwere structuur toe.
