Sizing and Laying Advice for Rugs
The right rug brings peace, warmth, and cohesion to your interior. Usually choose the larger size for a more spacious and luxurious effect.
Living Room A
Preferably choose a rug large enough for both the sofa and armchairs to stand on completely. This creates a calm composition and makes the seating area feel spacious and luxurious. A rug that is too small can make the overall look feel cluttered.
Living room B
Place the front legs of the sofa and chairs on the rug (approx. 20-30 cm under the furniture). This optically enlarges the space and creates cohesion, while keeping the rug nicely visible.
Living room C
Do you want the rug to be a statement piece on its own? Allow the rug to extend a little wider and longer than the coffee table or sofa line, creating space and balance around it. Ideal for a bold colour or pattern.
Living Room D
Make sure the rug extends under both sides of the corner sofa and aligns evenly at both ends. Ideally, the sofa should be entirely on the rug, or at least with its front legs. A small rug inside the 'L' often looks sparse and optically detaches the sofa.
Bedroom A
Place the rug under the bed, with enough rug visible on both sides and at the foot of the bed. Ideally, the nightstands should also (partially) rest on the rug. This will make the whole look grand and perfectly balanced.
Bedroom B
Opt for two runners next to the bed for a soft landing on both sides. Ensure the runners are at least as wide as the nightstands and extend far enough along the bed to maintain a calm and symmetrical look.
Bedroom C
A smaller rug at the foot of the bed is ideal as an accent, for example in a more compact room. Place it perpendicular to the bed and let the rug extend equally to the left and right for a neat, balanced look.
Dining room A
Choose a rug that extends well beyond the table on all sides, so that chairs remain completely on the rug when seated and when pushed back. This makes the whole setup stable and well-proportioned. Ideally, allow for an extra ± 60-70 cm all around.
Dining Room B
With a round table, a round rug works most harmoniously. Ensure the diameter is large enough to keep all chairs (even when moved) on the rug. This way, the arrangement remains calm and perfectly balanced.
Dining room C
A more compact rug can work very well with a dining table. Just make sure that the chairs remain largely on the rug even when being pushed in. This helps maintain a calm look in the room and keeps the proportions between the table, chairs, and rug beautifully balanced.
