When purchasing a rug, you have the choice between a high-pile or low-pile rug. Both options have their own advantages and disadvantages. We are happy to help you make the right choice.
High-pile rug
A high-pile rug is thick and gives the room a luxurious, warm, and robust appearance. The soft (often vintage) rug combines well with the modern character of high-gloss furniture. The two looks complement each other, and the contrast makes the room special. The high-pile rug works particularly well in lounge-like rooms because of the warmth it brings to a space. For example, the rug makes your living room even cozier or helps you relax in your bedroom. Additionally, the high-pile rug offers a soft surface and keeps your feet nice and warm.
A disadvantage of a high-pile rug is that maintenance requires more effort. Vacuuming takes a bit more effort, and stains are more difficult to remove. You also need to pay more attention to the height so you don't trip over it. Furniture on a high-pile rug can cause lasting indentations. It is often not advisable to place a piece of furniture partly on the rug and partly on the floor, as this can cause the furniture to stand crooked. A high pile, for example, makes it more difficult to pull up your chair.
Low-pile rug
Low-pile means that a rug is thin. The rug is quite smooth and fits well in a modern interior, but also in a room with old-fashioned furniture. Low-pile rugs are easier to maintain, and stains are easier to remove. The low-pile rug dresses up a room and provides warmth, but in a different way than a high-pile rug does. Different rugs can be layered over each other to create an exciting whole. This is a nice way to add warmth to large and often bare spaces, especially for larger rooms.
So, high-pile or low-pile?
Firstly, your own taste is important. Which type do you find more aesthetically pleasing, or which better complements the atmosphere of your space?
Additionally, it is important to consider your family composition in your choice. Do you have small children? In that case, a high-pile rug is often chosen because it is nice and soft and provides a soft landing if they fall. If family members have difficulty walking, a low-pile rug might be a better idea, as it reduces the risk of tripping. If you want little maintenance for your rug, a low-pile rug might be a better option. This is convenient, for example, if you have pets.
