- Try to treat stains as quickly as possible.
- First, carefully remove excess material.
- Never rub, as this will only push the stain deeper into the carpet.
- Work from the outside in, so you don't accidentally enlarge the stain.
- Take enough time. Cleaning products for luxury carpets often need several hours to work.
- Test the cleaning agent you plan to use. Even if it's supposed to be a carpet-friendly cleaner, try it first on an inconspicuous piece of fabric just to be safe. It would be a huge shame if the rug changed color or got damaged.
- Water | Use plenty of lukewarm water. Bubbles in sparkling mineral water have a purifying effect. Blot the water away with a cloth. If the cloth gets dirty, grab a clean one.
- Carpet cleaning mousse/shampoo | As the name suggests, these products are specifically formulated for carpets. Make sure to follow the instructions carefully.
- Salt | Especially effective against (still wet) red wine stains. Sprinkle a good amount of salt over the stain and let it sit for a while. Once the salt turns red, blot up the salt with a wet cloth. If the red wine has already dried, use a mixture of white wine and water.
- Baking soda | Baking soda is also a very versatile product for removing stains (and unpleasant odors). Cover the stain with baking soda and carefully pour hot water over it. Wait a few hours and gently blot it up. If it has any effect, repeat the process until the stain is completely gone.
- Natural vinegar | Natural vinegar is a versatile, natural cleaning agent for various types of dirt and stains. Afterward, you can dab the stain with a lukewarm damp cloth with a little natural vinegar. With natural vinegar, pay extra attention to whether it affects the carpet, and preferably only use it on a white carpet.
- Lemon, water, and washing powder | Lemon juice is very effective against (stubborn) stains. Mix water, lemon, and detergent for optimal results and use this to remove the stain. With lemon, pay extra attention to whether it affects the carpet, and preferably only use it on a white carpet.
